The Valentinalm is nestled between the steep limestone walls of “Kellerwand” and the “Gamskofel” and “Mooskofel”. You can reach it easily by using the road “Plöckenpassstrasse”. The refuge is an ideal resting place and starting point for hiking tours and climbs in the heart of the Carnic Alps.

The classic hike is the walk up to Wolayer lake (about 3 hours), with or possibility to climb the summit of the “Rauchkofel”. Very practiced climbers could head for the via ferrata on the Hohe Warte (minimum 6 h).

For the leisure walkers there is the possibility to reach the upper Valentinalm within an hour and a half.  The hike is also  suitable for families with small children.

Hundreds of million years ago the massifs of “Kellerwand”, “Kellerspitze” (2774 m), “Hohewarte” (2780 m), “Seekopf”, “Polinik” (2332 m), “Kleiner Pal” (1867 m) and “Cellon” (2241 m) formed a coral reef. As the huge Devon Sea disappeared, the thousand meters thick coral banks were uplifted. They form today the mountains that make our home so enchanting.

On the Geotrail the Carnic Alps you will discover geologichistory in the form of rocks and fossils, which can be up to 500 million years old.
